As U-M has shifted to offering classes, programs, and events in alternative and virtual formats, Michigan IT has risen to the challenge by enabling and supporting the most cutting-edge conferencing services available.
In support of attending classes, events, and meetings virtually, ITS will host virtual BlueJeans training and drop-in sessions. Live sessions begin March 12 and continue through the month, with recordings to be published afterward.
BlueJeans will add closed captioning in February. Meeting participants will be able to switch on “automated” Closed Captions with a check box in Settings.
Don’t forget to download your meeting recordings within 90 days. Once deleted, there are no backups and they cannot be recovered. Per a new policy, BlueJeans Network no longer keeps recordings on record.
ITS and BlueJeans Network are bringing a new feature called to U-M’s preferred conferencing service. Breakout Sessions allows meeting moderators to create separate rooms and move participants in and out of them as needed.
U-M held almost a quarter of a million BlueJeans meetings in 12 months—about 37% more than the previous fiscal year. There were also over 900,000 people using the service.

Since BlueJeans was introduced to the U-M community in 2014, campus has found creative ways to use the service to connect users anywhere, anytime, and from almost any device.
The August 2017 update to the BlueJeans videoconferencing app makes scheduling easier in popular calendars and adds interactive polls in the BlueJeans Primetime add-on.
