Meet Greg Laman, Director of Technology at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. He and his team support the general computing needs of the school and the more specialized technology in their studios. He has worked at the SMTD since the late nineties and enjoys seeing and hearing the great work being done by the school’s students and faculty.

I hope you have all been able to enjoy our first official month of summer. There is so much going on at the university right now, particularly related to our leadership in technology. President Ono’s announced of the creation of a new “innovation corridor” between Ann Arbor and Detroit. This initiative is a partnership between U-M and the Detroit Regional Chamber. It will significantly foster technological advancement and economic growth in our area over the next decade.

As social media has becomes more of a battlefield for brand attention and engagement, understanding the factors of online interactions is not just helpful; it’s essential. Follow along with Abigail, an ITS intern, as she trains a Maizey to intricately analyze ITS’s social media metrics.

Automated Data Cleaning for Sleep Data from Wearables

Automated sleep data cleanup and processing to harmonize Fitbit data obtained via Fitabase with self-reported sleep diary entries sent via SMS-to-Email. This project uses Microsoft Power Automate for processing sleep diary entries in a shared mailbox, and Excel / Power Query for loading and cleaning sleep stages and HRV data.

We are concluding the winter term of 2024. This marks the end of an exciting and challenging academic year for our educational community. There is so much turmoil in the world right now. That is why it is vitally important that Michigan IT is always here to support our students, faculty, staff, and each other. We are all in this together. We are a team.
