Beginning this fall, all students on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses are being encouraged to turn on Duo two-factor authentication by January 29.

Faculty, staff, student employees, and sponsored affiliates across U-M voluntarily turned on two-factor authentication by this past January with the support of ITS and the overall Michigan IT community. Over 50% of the students on the Ann Arbor campus alone are already using Duo. Some because of their role as student employees and others because they also recognize the importance of online safety and security.

ITS Information Assurance is engaging with student organizations and collaborating with university groups and organizations that work closely with students to help get the word out. An advisory group is being formed that will consist of representation from across the university. Meanwhile, schools, colleges, and units are being asked to encourage their students to turn on two-factor before the January deadline.

Helping in the implementation effort, IT staff can expect to hear more soon about what they can do. Questions about the campaign rollout and ideas for encouraging early enrollment should be directed to the Duo@Weblogin for Students Project Team at Duo-Feedback@umich.edu.
