Health Professions Education Day 2017 (HPE Day) engaged faculty, students, and staff across all three campuses and ten health science schools on April 13 at the Michigan League. The result: collaboration and networking that will inspire future research and practices for educational efforts across all of the health professions schools at U-M.
Staff from the HITS Education & Training Division exhibited two posters to highlight projects they have helped to facilitate for the medical school over the past year:
- “Empowering Patient Voices: Publishing Patient Stories,” presented by Karen Kost and Marissa Rivas-Taylor. They were joined by Tim Egan and his service dog, Aries. Mr. Egan is the editor of a forthcoming collection of patient and family stories with a working title of “The Brain Tumor Experience” that is being published by the HITS Documentation and Publishing team. He is also a volunteer facilitator of a patient and family brain tumor support group, and a brain tumor survivor.
- “Incorporating Instructional Design Principles into Undergraduate Medical Education Podcasts,” presented by Chris Chapman, John Westfall, Jason Engling, Marc Stephens, and Aki Yao. Almost 50 video podcasts have been implemented to support small-group learning as part of the new Medical School curriculum.
