To support academic discovery, ARC-TS will offer Great Lakes High-Performance Computing Cluster for classroom use for the 2020-2021 academic year. Each course can have $100 per student for HPC, GPU, Jupyter, and RStudio resources.
Great Lakes is the university’s flagship, open-science, high-performance computing cluster. Just one second of computing on the Great Lakes network is the same as streaming Netflix 1080p for 5 hours (or 2 hours of 4k), and each of the more than 400 nodes on Great Lakes has this capability.
This speed can enable rapid modeling iteration and testing, exposing students to more realistic, full-scale application to their coursework and extracurricular activities. An engineering student-run team has been using Great Lakes to rapidly iterate simulations to send a rocket into space. Another student has been using machine learning and the Great Lakes HPC Cluster for COVID-19 modeling and research.
