Enhanced Duo Security Feature Starts Sept 25

Starting Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 12 p.m., Duo two-factor authentication push notifications will require university community members on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses to enter a three-digit code when they access U-M Weblogin. Michigan Medicine transitioned to the change on August 9.

The enhancement, which impacts faculty, staff, students, alumni, and sponsored affiliates, is designed to strengthen the university’s security posture against phishing and impersonation attacks. The update also makes a significant difference in keeping the community secure. While the new process introduces an additional step in the login routine, it does not increase the frequency of authentication prompts received.

The introduction of the three-digit code requirement for Duo verified push notifications is part of the university’s broader initiative to continue to improve cybersecurity. By implementing these changes, the institution underscores its commitment to ensuring a safer digital environment for everyone.

More information is available at safecomputing.umich.edu/DuoVerifiedPush. Unit IT staff with questions should submit a ticket to the ITS-IAMTwoFactor group via the ITS Service Center.
