Don’t let Duo two-factor become a distraction when you travel. Review your options before you leave to make sure you’re prepared. While your regular Duo option may work, you could choose to use an alternative method that better suits your travel plans. Duo offers multiple options that are suited for different circumstances.

The recommended travel option is the Duo Mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. It can provide an offline passcode without the need for a cellular or WiFi connection. As long as your device has power, you can use the app to get a passcode.

If you have a trip coming up, refer to the one-page reference sheet, How to Travel With Duo Two-Factor Authentication, for suggested options. Some suggestions are to:

  • Enroll additional devices and/or phone numbers in Duo at duo.it.umich.edu.
  • If you use multiple SIM cards in your mobile phone, enroll the phone number associated with each one.
  • If you won’t have access to mobile devices or phones, pick up a Duo hardware token at Computer Showcase.
