Michigan scientists rejoice: MATLAB, a popular mathematical computing, simulation, and analysis platform, is now available to the entire U-M community.
A consortium of U-M departments collaborated to fund the campuswide site license—including the College of Engineering, the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), Michigan Medicine, Advanced Research Computing – Technology Services (ARC-TS), UM-Dearborn, and Information and Technology Services (ITS).
Under the new agreement, U-M faculty, staff, and students will have access to the full suite of MATLAB tools and unlimited access to the online library of training videos.

MATLAB was previously available at no cost to members of the funding departments and available for sale to other individuals at U-M. Because of generous funding increases from the member departments in the MATLAB consortium, the software is now available to all faculty, staff, and students for no additional fee.
The new arrangement also reduces the administrative overhead for departments that previously distributed MATLAB licenses to their users, by adding a self-service portal for registering and downloading the software and integrating with U-M’s Shibboleth single sign-on system.
