The ITS CTools team will host a project site migration clinic on Friday, November 10, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the ScholarSpace in Hatcher Graduate Library, room 206. If you own a project site in CTools, this is a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with a CTools expert to get help downloading your project site content and learn about alternative services. Sign up for an appointment or drop in during the day to talk with a consultant.
For more than a decade, the U-M community has used project sites in CTools to store files and collaborate. The increased availability and expanded capabilities of other collaboration tools, combined with declining CTools usage, has led to the plan to retire the service. The target date for transitioning all active project sites from CTools is August 31, 2018; however, individual units may choose an earlier date. All historical content in CTools will be available at least through July 1, 2019. (The ability to create new sites in CTools was suspended in February.)
Communications to project site owners, which began in September, will continue into early 2018. Site owners should first review their sites. Depending on their level of readiness to transition out of CTools, they can then:
- Transfer or update ownership.
- Delete sites that are no longer needed.
- Use the self-service tool to download site content and migrate it to another platform or save it in a location of their choosing.
The project website provides more information. Site owners who are not ready to move project site content should try an alternative service for any collaboration or storage needs to find the solution that works best for them.
