Social media enhances LSA bicentennial event

U-M turns 200 this year, and the College of LSA is doing its part to make it a social occasion.

As part of the bicentennial celebration, LSA has organized several events, including a staff scavenger hunt that began May 8 during the LSA Staff Spring Fling. The seven-week adventure showcases historic university monuments, locations, and plaques in various LSA departments, culminating at the MStaff200 Bicentennial Celebration June 27.

Each week, ten new locations are announced for teams to seek out, photograph, and tweet with a common set of hashtags. Almost 50 teams and over 300 staff are participating, and teams will be entered for a grand prize at the end of the event.

To facilitate voting each week, the LSA Scavenger Hunt committee enlisted LSA Development, Marketing, and Communications (DMC). The team at DMC has been instrumental, designing the hunt buffs (which players wear in their photos), an event T-shirt, and producing Twitter embed code for the LSA Staff Recognition page.

Each team posted three hashtags with their Twitter photos: #LSA200 (for the event), one for the week of the hunt, and one for their team name. Registration was done using Google Forms, and the form was exported to manage ordering and dispersal of participants’ T-shirts.

Nicely done, LSA!
