The Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad (WESO) is starting up and many schools across Washtenaw county that participate could use a hand. WESO will feature an iCompute event this year that covers basic computing concepts and creating a simple program. “I have coached teams for the past three years,” says Kelly Doonan-Reed (ITS) and member of the Women in Information Technology CoP. “It is great experience and way to foster STEM interest in girls and all kids.” Visit the WESO website for more information or contact your local elementary school to see if they need volunteers. WESO is an affiliate of Science Olympiad, a national, non-profit, tax-exempt organization created in 1983 to increase interest in science. The Science Olympiad has members in all 50 states, totaling more than 13,500 actively participating K-12 schools.
