This month, I’m sharing a volunteer-driven project that transforms public domain works into beautifully crafted, modern ebooks that are free to read, reuse, and remix: Standard Ebooks.
Drawing on sources like Project Gutenberg, the project meticulously proofs each text, applies a professional-grade style manual, and embeds rich metadata to create consistent, high-quality editions optimized for today’s ereaders and browsers. Each title features thoughtful typography, attractive fine art covers, and clean, semantic code, making the collection appealing both to everyday readers and to technologists who want reliable source files for further projects.
Where do you get your eBooks? Do you prefer to read public domain or do you purchase more modern books? Please share in the comments below!
