Monica Hickson of ITS Infrastructure presented on behalf of the Women in IT Community of Practice as part of the Career Exploration Speaker Series at Pioneer High School on Friday, April 5.
Hickson, who is an instructional designer, spoke to a group of 23 students about Instructional Design as a career path. She described what it takes to be a successful designer and discussed the skills, training, and tools needed to have a career in this industry. “The students had interesting questions and seemed curious to learn what it takes to pursue this career,” said Hickson “While there were aspiring mechanical engineers, computer science, and business hopefuls in the room, I think I was able to open their eyes to other possible tech careers,” she added.
Christopher Kasper, Pioneer counselor, said the school will hold additional career exploration sessions throughout the school year. Michigan IT staff who are interested in participating as a Career Exploration Speaker should contact Christopher Kasper at kasperc@aaps.k12.mi.us or 734-994-8229, or Jacob McLouth at mclouthj@aaps.k12.mi.us or 734-994-2116.
