New Computer Showcase at Shapiro hosts grand opening May 30

new Computer Showcase in Shapiro Library

(Computer Showcase)

This year’s Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day is also the Grand Opening of the new Computer Showcase Central Campus location in the Shapiro Library. Join us at either location 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30 for one-day-only incentive offers and discount pricing on an expanded selection of our most popular products. Advance product reservations are available now at the Computer Showcase website.

Computer Showcase opened for business on May 3 on the first floor of Shapiro Library. After 25 years in the Michigan Union, Showcase closed their flagship store due to the extensive building renovation project. The relocation is temporary, and Showcase plans to move back to the newly remodeled Union when it re-opens in the winter of 2020. The Union store closed at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Over the next four days, product inventory, showroom and stock room fixtures, and staff offices were dismantled, packed, moved, and reassembled in a new, completely open space at Shapiro Library. Staff rang out the new store’s first customer at 9:35 a.m. on Thursday.

Groups from across ITS and campus were instrumental in making the relocation happen on such an aggressive timeline—including Tech Repair, Tech Consulting, Campus Computing Sites and Digital Signage, ITS Facilities, UMNet, Neighborhood IT, the MiWorkspace Print Team, Library Facilities, Michigan Union Facilities, Construction Services, Division of Public Safety, and more. From the entire Computer Showcase crew, many thanks to everyone who helped!
