In early December, U-M shared the university’s IT standard on Endpoint Security Administration with our IT community, which formalizes previous guidance to help units meet requirements around protecting our institution’s valuable digital assets.

The Endpoint Security Administration (DS-23) standard addresses:

  • Broad implementation of enterprise-enhanced endpoint protection (CrowdStrike Falcon)
  • Adherence to the principle of least functionality
  • Inventory of university-owned systems

The standard is accompanied by comprehensive guidance on meeting endpoint protection requirements that span IT standards at U-M.

The standard and guidance are the result of extensive joint work by a group of Security Unit Liaisons, ITS Information Assurance experts, and IT Policy team members. In the new year, ITS will continue collaborating with university partners on the revision of IT policies and standards to align with the current state of technology, threat environment, and best cybersecurity practices.
