Information and Technology Services (ITS) has published an important revision of the IT Standard on Network Security (DS-14).
The standard was first issued in 2018 in conjunction with the release of the updated university policy on Information Security (SPG 601.27). Since then, the cybersecurity landscape and the university’s approach to information security have evolved in response to heightened threats.
Highlights of version 2.0 of DS-14 include:
- Requirements for use of the U-M network and VPN
- Updated roles and responsibilities for Authorized Campus Network Administrators and Campus Network Service Providers
- Strengthened network protection mechanisms, such as higher-level protocols and host-based firewalls
These measures further protect the university’s valuable digital assets and data, while continuing to support open access to resources across a diverse academic environment.
