Are you ready for Cybersecurity Awareness Month?

Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022

This fall, ITS Information Assurance (IA) continues the tradition of celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month with the annual SUMIT series of weekly events hosted by IA’s cybersecurity experts.

SUMIT’s online sessions include:

  • Cosign Retirement Drop-in Sessions: Unit IT who manage services that use Cosign authentication can learn how to smoothly transition from Cosign to Shibboleth (SAML or OIDC).
  • Safe Computing for Everyone: Meet the IA Education and Engagement team and learn how they curate knowledge, develop training, and create awareness for U-M community members to protect themselves and the U.
  • MCommunity Privacy and Security Settings for Individual and Group Profiles: Learn about recent changes to MCommunity, including security and privacy improvements to the MCommunity user profile and groups interfaces. Participants can ask questions and presenters will demonstrate how to use specific features.
  • Remediation of Insecure Remote Access Protocols (IRAP): The IRAP project is an effort to further improve the security posture of the university by focusing on the discovery and remediation of insecure protocols that are exposed to the Internet. IA experts will walk through the steps from planning to blocking, data collection and analysis methodology, and outreach to the U-M community.
  • Protecting Research Data: Researchers and staff supporting research at U-M should attend this session to learn more about resources to help navigate IT security compliance and ensure research data is appropriately protected.
  • SUMIT Keynote: Adventures in Securing At-Risk People: Featuring Runa Sandvik, founder of Granitt, a venture to focus on security for journalists and at-risk people around the world. Her work builds upon experience from her time at The New York Times, Freedom of the Press Foundation, and The Tor Project. She is a board member of the Norwegian Online News Association, runs @journalistandspy on Instagram, and tweets as @runasand. Register to join the SUMIT keynote stream.
