\"gamefulRegistration is open for the second annual\u00a0Gameful Learning Summer Institute<\/a> (GLSI) to be held Monday, July 23, 2018 and Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Palmer Commons. Sponsored by the Office of Academic Innovation<\/a>, GLSI brings together faculty, teachers, instructional designers, administrators, staff, and students to explore gameful learning ideas through a series of speakers, lightning talks and workshops. The Institute is a place to connect with colleagues across institutions and disciplines to talk about gameful learning. Attendees will share different teaching and design ideas, develop new strategies for motivating students, and connect with others who are interested in innovative ways to reach all learners. What is gameful learning?<\/h1>\n

Gameful learning is a new pedagogical approach that takes inspiration from the engagement seen in video games, and uses it to reimagine what traditional learning environments could be like \u2013 particularly, what role students can play and how the design of assessment systems supports student engagement. Gameful learning, is centered around designing environments where students are encouraged to focus on the craft of learning. Students have autonomy over their learning experience and are encouraged to make self-aware choices regarding how to learn and demonstrate their knowledge of the course material. Gameful courses encourage students to take risks because the structure of the course allows them the ability to recover from failure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
