The <\/span>Andrew File System (AFS)<\/span><\/a>\u2014a central file storage, sharing, and retrieval system that U-M websites rely on\u2014will be relocated to a new data center on February 24.<\/span><\/p>\n

Work will be done during the normal maintenance window on <\/span>Saturday, February 24, 2018, starting at 11 p.m.<\/b> At that time there will be a brief outage expected to last no longer than one hour. This time frame is ideal when U-M website traffic is usually at its lowest.<\/span><\/p>\n

The relocation will allow AFS to operate in a more modern data center that uses up-to-date hardware, making the system more resilient and impervious to failure. In the event of a problem, ITS will roll back AFS to the existing servers, which will not be touched during the maintenance (other than to copy data).<\/span><\/p>\n

No action is needed on campus. <\/b>You should expect a brief outage during the maintenance window. After the all-clear is given, if you observe website problems that you believe might be related, please contact the<\/span> ITS Service Center<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
