The rise of artificial intelligence threatens to eliminate white-collar and “creative class” jobs once considered impossible to automate, including real estate brokers, insurance claims adjusters, lawyers, and business managers. In a recent article<\/a>, Kentaro Toyama<\/strong>, associate professor of technology and global development at the School of Information, examines if\u00a0anything good could come of mass unemployment, or whether it will lead\u00a0to a worker rebellion.<\/p>\n

“Old ideas that computers can\u2019t do certain human things \u2013\u00a0be creative,\u00a0express emotion,\u00a0empathize\u00a0\u2013 are being tossed out one by one,” writes Toyama. “In my view, technology amplifies the\u00a0inequities of capitalism.
