{"id":4903,"date":"2017-08-23T16:18:51","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T20:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigan.it.umich.edu\/news\/?p=4903"},"modified":"2024-07-08T06:06:17","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T10:06:17","slug":"digital-tools-job-seekers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigan.it.umich.edu\/news\/2017\/08\/23\/digital-tools-job-seekers\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital tools for underserved job seekers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As more employers turn to sites like LinkedIn and CareerBuilder to recruit talent, job seekers from low-income areas or who have limited education often are left out. <strong>Tawanna Dillahunt<\/strong>, assistant professor at the U-M School of Information and College of Engineering, hopes to change that. <strong>Dillahunt\u00a0<\/strong>has received a $499,729 National Science Foundation grant to help <a href=\"http:\/\/ns.umich.edu\/new\/releases\/25025-grant-will-support-digital-tools-for-underserved-job-seekers\">improve digital employment recruitment tools for these job seekers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid growth of information and communication technologies has created a &#8220;digital recruitment divide that works to the detriment of these underserved job seekers,&#8221; Dillahunt says. &#8220;Organizations save money by automating their employment practices.
