The tool is the latest addition to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ai.umich.edu\/portfolio\/m-write\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M-Write<\/a>, a program run by the Gayle Morris Sweetland Center for Writing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne R. Gere<\/strong>, professor of English language and literature who serves as director of the writing center, admits that using the word \u201cautomated\u201d in a conversation about writing instruction can be controversial. \u201cPerhaps because I\u2019m a humanist, I always think technology needs to have a human element as well,\u201d Gere said. \u201cThis is the place where the humanities and sciences can come together to create better learning for students across the curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>M-Write combines automation with human oversight to lead students through writing assignments in which they draft, receive peer feedback, revise, and resubmit.
