You\u2019re not sure if the problem is with the equipment or something you did. And you\u2019re not sure who can help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"omsc-one-half\">Information and Technology Services (ITS) wants to help change that. The goal: to make it easier for the U-M community to use audiovisual capabilities in conference rooms on the UM-Ann Arbor campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ITS is not alone: A new community of practice\u00a0about audiovisual technologies and deployments (<a href=\"https:\/\/mcommunity.umich.edu\/#group:AV%20Technology%20CoP\">MCommunity<\/a>) is being facilitated by the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, the Ross School of Business, and ITS. The group also includes representation from Health Information Technology &amp; Services (HITS), College of Engineering, Law School, and others who seek to share best practices, create consistency, and increase buying power.<div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"omsc-one-half omsc-last\"><div class=\"omsc-box omsc-with-title omsc-with-bg-color omsc-with-icon omsc-icon-style-border omsc-icon-shape-circle\" style=\"border-color:#000000;background-color:#eff0f1;text-align:left\"><div class=\"omsc-box-icon-wrapper\"><div class=\"omsc-box-icon\" style=\"border-color:#eff0f1;color:#eff0f1;border-color:#000000;color:#000000;\"><i class=\"fa fa-info\"><\/i><\/div><\/div><div class=\"omsc-box-inner\"><div class=\"omsc-box-title\">ITS Audiovisual includes:<\/div><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Convenient &amp; consistent AV<\/li>\n<li>Expert consultation<\/li>\n<li>Training &amp; instruction<\/li>\n<li>Ongoing support<\/li>\n<li>Responsive service<\/li>\n<li>Integration with U-M infrastructure<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/audiovisual-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn more<\/a><\/div><\/div><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"omsc-clear\"><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By incorporating campus feedback, the <a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/audiovisual-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ITS Audiovisual (AV) service<\/a> will help units design and build cost-effective solutions that are integrated with U-M infrastructure. The new service expands on <a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/room-systems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ITS Videoconferencing Room Systems<\/a>\u00a0and now includes AV consultation, engineering and design, procurement, installation, configuration, and ongoing support.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur goal is to deliver a consistent AV experience across campus,\u201d said Alok Vimawala, ITS Infrastructure director of business services and AV service owner. \u201cIn every conference room ITS designs, you can expect the AV system to be familiar and easy-to-use.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what constitutes AV? ITS offers three <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/audiovisual-service\/configurations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">standard configurations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The most common allows computers and other devices to connect to a room display, such as a display monitor or projector. Other rooms may require a more sophisticated solution to address the unique challenges of the space. In every case, ITS will partner with units to understand their needs, then design and build the system to specification, coordinating with external vendors if needed. Units may elect to install add-ons such as videoconferencing room systems, ceiling speakers and microphones, wireless content-sharing capabilities, and USB peripherals like cameras.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cost of AV projects vary based on the characteristics of the conference room, what your unit is trying to accomplish, and whether facilities upgrades are needed. Your unit\u2019s ITS Infrastructure <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/infrastructure\/project-managers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">project manager<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can help you get started. Connectivity and troubleshooting support for AV systems is included as part of MiWorkspace. Units that are not supported by MiWorkspace can subscribe to ongoing, in-person AV support from ITS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Units that are outside of the scope of ITS Audiovisual, or that need classroom AV support, should contact their local units.
