The Michigan Technology Community (MTech) needs volunteers <\/strong>from Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Flint and Michigan Medicine to help guide what comes next \u2014 from planning events and telling community stories to stepping into a leadership role that connects the University of Michigan\u2019s tech groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMTech only works because staff and faculty choose to contribute their time and ideas,\u201d said Aubrey Morse, chair of the MTech Steering Committee. \u201cNot everyone can commit the same amount of time, and that\u2019s OK, because we have roles that are small, specific and flexible.”

Lead the Way: CoP coordinator role<\/strong>

MTech is seeking a volunteer for a key leadership role serving as the Communities of Practice coordinator on the MTech Steering Committee. The person in this role will represent CoP needs and perspectives, gather feedback from CoP leads, and help strengthen connections between existing tech groups across U-M and the broader MTech network. The appointment is for a one-year term and includes biweekly steering committee meetings.

\u201cOur Communities of Practice are doing great work across the university,\u201d said Kenny Moore, co-chair of the MTech Steering Committee. \u201cThis coordinator helps us connect the dots \u2014 sharing resources, elevating what\u2019s working and making it easier for groups to collaborate.\u201d

Become Involved: Flexible ways to participate<\/strong>

In addition to the coordinator position, MTech is also recruiting volunteers for a range of opportunities designed to be low-barrier and flexible.

Volunteers can support storytelling and communications such as writing, graphic design, newsletters and social media; help capture community moments through photography and video; assist with event logistics and day-of support; or join subcommittees such as Collaboration, Outreach, Spotlight and Workforce.

\u201cIf you\u2019re not sure how best to help, we\u2019ll work with you to find something that\u2019s the right fit,\u201d Morse said.
