These are now the dominant technologies for high-performance displays used in smartphones and televisions, but their potential applications are far broader, from solar cells to printable electronics to bio-interfaces. Professor Friend will describe some of the journey from early discoveries to practical display technology, and outline some of the current research on the new phenomena these materials can exhibit,
