As you prepare to travel, you will likely take along some combination of a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and other mobile devices. Follow these tips to safeguard both your own and the university&#8217;s data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Before You Travel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Only take what you need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t take personal or U-M data or devices you won&#8217;t need.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/encrypt-your-data\">encrypted devices<\/a> when you travel with U-M data.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Update and prepare your devices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Update all software and operating systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Backup your device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Set up basic security settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use a passcode and auto-lock on all devices. Lock them when not in use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on the Find My Device feature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan ahead for two-factor.
