Students, faculty, and staff must work together to protect U-M\u2019s digital assets. It\u2019s never been more important for the U-M community to remember that <strong>protecting the university\u2019s digital assets is a shared responsibility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are key ways each of us can step up IT security and privacy:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Secure devices and strong passwords are the best defense against unauthorized access to data and resources. Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/manage-your-passwords?nav\">Protect Your Passwords &amp; Identity<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/secure-your-devices\">Secure Your Devices<\/a> to refresh your knowledge and help others stay safe.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-the-u\/safely-use-sensitive-data\/protect-sensitive-data\">Protecting sensitive data<\/a> is the responsibility of every member of the U-M community. Ensure you and your colleagues understand the guidelines for authorized access, responsible use and management of information, and appropriate services for storing different types of U-M data.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staying up-to-date on security and privacy best practices is important as cybersecurity threats become more ubiquitous. <a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/\">The U-M Safe Computing website<\/a> has a wealth of resources to help you:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/be-safe-online\/practice-online-hygiene\">Practice Online Hygiene<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/phishing-scams\/avoid-scams\">Protect Yourself from Scams<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take security and privacy measures for <a href=\"https:\/\/safecomputing.umich.edu\/protect-yourself\/be-safe-online\/working-remotely\">Remote Work &amp; Study<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and much more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, each of us has a role to play in keeping you and the U secure this fall.
