In October we reported that, along with other security tools like Virtru at U-M<\/a>, CrowdStrike Falcon was being rolled out across the university on UM-owned machines<\/a>. Falcon provides antivirus, anti-malware, and threat detection and mitigation capabilities, all of which offer stronger protection against ransomware and other malicious attacks than previous tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deployment update <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CrowdStrike Falcon has been deployed on more than 18,000 MiWorkspace and MiServer computers as well as over 8,000 unit-managed systems. The expectation continues to be that units will complete the deployment of Falcon by the end of February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rusty Brach, Michigan Radio systems administrator, said, \u201cI like CrowdStrike Falcon because of the central management console. For the first time, I can monitor the security status of all of our computers in real time. I also like the fact that the sensor software is so lightweight that it functions in the background using minimal resources!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Van Dusen, systems administrator at UM-Flint ITS, said, \u201cIf I had to pick one particular thing to praise (there’s a lot to love here), it’s the fact that I can deploy the same product to every operating system in use and manage the detections centrally. It greatly simplifies the job of protecting our campus systems.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outreach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The implementation team recently presented a poster at the 2020 Michigan IT Symposium<\/a> and answered an array of questions about the multi-tenant structure, sensitive data, and potential performance impacts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
