Funded by the National Science Foundation and NASA, the U-M projects aim to accurately predict solar storms and coronal mass ejections and to improve models of Earth\u2019s upper atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cU-M has a long tradition of developing high quality computational models and software for space and plasma physics,\u201d said Vyacheslav Lukin, NSF program director in the Division of Physics. \u201cThese awards will enable U-M research groups to both reimagine the software for tomorrow\u2019s supercomputing hardware, and make the new codes widely available to be used and further improved upon by the global space weather modeling community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solar storms and other space weather events have the potential to impact society on a national or global scale.
