(Image courtesy U-M College of Engineering)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.engin.umich.edu\/2020\/06\/pelham-scholars-program-celebrates-its-first-year-of-supporting-masters-students\/\">The inaugural class of Pelham Scholars have now completed their first year of the program.<\/a> The Pelham Scholars Program supports a diverse array of underrepresented students by providing them with robust mentorship and two semesters of free tuition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program\u2019s strong focus on mentoring, networking, and seeking career opportunities gives its scholars access to a unique network of industry professionals and new insight into their fields of interest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe program challenged the way I thought about my decisions as an engineer,\u201d said Ariana Sabbat, a Pelham Scholar and recent graduate of the structural engineering program. \u201cI was consistently motivated by the people around me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pelham Scholars Program is named in honor of Frederick Blackburn Pelham, the first Black U-M engineering graduate. The program continues his legacy of excellence and the successes of this inaugural class have laid the foundation for the future of CSS with more diversity in both people and ideas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inaugural class of Pelham Scholars have now completed their first year of the program.
