(CSE)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three computer science students and alumni have launched operating room monitors and screens into the virtual world of augmented reality. <strong>Mitchell Bigland<\/strong>, <strong>Nicholas Keuning<\/strong>, and <strong>Chase Austin<\/strong>, working with doctors <strong>David Chesney<\/strong> and <strong>Marcus Jarboe<\/strong> of Pediatric Surgery, have developed an <a href=\"http:\/\/eecs.umich.edu\/eecs\/about\/articles\/2019\/telesurgery.html\">app for the Microsoft Hololens to stream a video feed of a patient\u2019s internals directly to the surgeon\u2019s field of vision<\/a>, helping them keep their eyes on their tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The app takes the feed from the surgeon\u2019s laparascope (a slim camera and&nbsp;light that can fit into small incisions) and streams it with a Hololens, where it\u2019s always in the user\u2019s frame of view and easy to reposition or resize with gestures and voice control.  The app also gives doctors the ability to load images of previous diagnostic scans and arrange them alongside the video stream.
