I’ve had the pleasure of talking with many IT leaders about our goals, challenges, and opportunities to work better together.

IT plays large and vital roles in enabling the university’s missions of education, research and patient care. And, like many of you, I’m passionate about helping all parts of our community understand and get the most out of the IT resources the university offers.

One of my biggest priorities in the coming year is to build strong relationships with university colleagues to find the right mix of technology that is most important to the university’s future. Things like making it easier for faculty to use high-performance computing and high-speed storage services, better leveraging the capabilities of the cloud, and making sure our universitywide IT infrastructure, security components and administrative systems are well-maintained and financially sustainable.

In addition, I’ll be working with Information and Technology Services (ITS) to examine its high-level priorities, services, and business models, which is necessary to adapt our work for current and future IT demands. With its partners across campus, ITS will look at capabilities needed for the future, develop pilot initiatives, and adopt only those that add value.

By connecting with colleagues across departments and disciplines, we’re able to expand our thinking and solve challenges faster. This is, in part, why I am so supportive of Michigan IT activities and events. I hope you will join me at the Michigan IT Hacks with Friends event, where I’ll be serving as one of the judges. With themes based on President Schlissel’s areas of focus, it’s a real opportunity to do rapid, innovative work in support of the university’s mission.

Finally, I appreciate the messages and invitations I’ve received to attend various meetings on campus, and I look forward to getting those scheduled. If you see me on campus, please stop and say hello—I’d love to meet you.

In partnership,
Kelli

__________________________
Kelli Trosvig
Vice President for Information Technology and CIO
University of Michigan

Send questions or comments to Kelli through the Office of the CIO website.

My first 12 weeks at U-M have been a whirlwind of activity, and I’m learning as quickly as I can.
