Greetings, everyone! I am grateful to each one of you for your dedication to support this amazing institution. Your incredible efforts each day support our students, faculty, and staff to make a difference across our campuses and throughout the world. It is so gratifying to know that our work helps enable the University of Michigan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carrying out the mission of the university generates an incredible amount of data each day. This data informs ground-breaking research and discovery, teaching and learning, and patient care. Over the last month, I participated in multiple conversations with staff, faculty, and university leaders about our vision for a data-informed decision making ecosystem at U-M<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our vision is for U-M to be an empowered community of data consumers who have on-demand, role-based access to enterprise data. As an initial step, a dedicated team of ITS staff is beginning to create and disseminate knowledge to answer the question: \u201cWhere is our Data?\u201d This includes mapping where our enterprise data is stored; how it is used, classified, governed, and secured; and how it can be leveraged in order for our campus partners to better use our data. Stay tuned for more updates and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our vision is for U-M to be an empowered community of data consumers who have on-demand, role-based access to enterprise data. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This initiative will require broad collaboration and partnership and I am counting on everyone to step up, be a teacher, and help enhance our community’s ability to make data-informed decisions. I would love to hear your thoughts about our vision of supporting data-informed decisions\u2014where are our opportunities? What are the obstacles we need to overcome? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am looking forward to attending Hacks with Friends this week! It is such a fantastic chance to learn from others from across the university. I can\u2019t wait to see what inspirational projects the teams will work on together. Another opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues is through the Michigan IT Mentor program<\/a>. I have had many incredible teachers and mentors in my life, and I appreciate so many of you serving as mentors to the Michigan IT community. Thank you for all that you do for this amazing institution. I am grateful for your efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
