href=\"http:\/\/eecs.umich.edu\/eecs\/about\/articles\/2019\/guzdial-computing-education.html\">computing education at the College of Engineering<\/a>, <strong>Mark Guzdial<\/strong> sees the growing role computing plays in every layer of people\u2019s lives.  \u201cI suggest that programming is a literacy,\u201d he writes in a recent&nbsp;essay&nbsp;on the goals of his field. \u201cIt\u2019s a way of expressing thought, communicating with others, and testing and exploring new ideas.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Computing literacy has become so important in modern society that Guzdial believes expanded access to <a href=\"https:\/\/cacm.acm.org\/blogs\/blog-cacm\/234489-the-growing-tension-between-undergraduate-and-k-12-is-cs-for-all-or-just-those-who-get-past-the-caps\/fulltext#.XFc_o8XMRUU.twitter\">computing education is a social justice issue<\/a> and that it is a responsibility of education to make sure no one is left behind in this changing landscape. \u201cProgramming gives you this other way of viewing the world, and that\u2019s part of what makes this so interesting,\u201d he says. \u201cIt now behooves us to figure out how you give everybody access to this literacy.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
