(CES)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Eight U-M students from Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) got the chance to network and celebrate diversity in computing at the <a href=\"http:\/\/eecs.umich.edu\/eecs\/about\/articles\/2018\/tapia-conference.html\">2018 Richard Tapia Conference<\/a>, which took place in Orlando, Florida September 19\u201322. This year\u2019s conference theme was \u201cDiversity: Roots of Innovation,\u201d acknowledging the historical role of diversity in STEM innovation and its essential role in innovating the future. CSE staff attended the conference\u2019s exhibition hall as an event sponsor, and were able to connect with a number of students regarding programs of study in computer science and engineering at Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>The students were accompanied by engineering professor Chad Jenkins.\u00a0\u201cIt has been great to see CSE establish a significant effort to broaden participation in computing,\u201d says Jenkins, who is in his fourth year leading students to participate in the conference. \u201cThe considerable presence of CSE at Tapia will surely reap benefits in Michigan&#8217;s global competitiveness.
