{"id":10455,"date":"2018-10-19T13:53:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T17:53:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigan.it.umich.edu\/news?p=10455&#038;preview=true&#038;preview_id=10455"},"modified":"2024-07-08T06:05:43","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T10:05:43","slug":"bluejeans-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigan.it.umich.edu\/news\/2018\/10\/19\/bluejeans-2\/","title":{"rendered":"New BlueJeans desktop app includes modern interface, more features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Information and Technology Services (ITS) continues to work with BlueJeans Network to deliver industry-leading videoconferencing, content sharing, and real-time video to the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/blue-jeans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BlueJeans<\/a> is U-M\u2019s preferred conferencing service and is available today at no extra cost to your unit.<\/p>\n<h1>What\u2019s new<\/h1>\n<p>The updated desktop app, version 2.8 for Windows and Mac, is designed for speed and simplicity. A visual refresh brings an interface that is modern and intuitive. The app includes core features of version 1.0, with more in development. Video Sharing and Remote Desktop Control will be coming soon. Features include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Customizable layouts \u2014 Choose the layout that best fits your need in each meeting<\/li>\n<li>Screen-Share-Only mode \u2014 Join meetings solely to participate in content sharing (without audio or video)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10494 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/michigan.it.umich.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BlueJeans-2-screenshot-700x413.png\" alt=\"A screenshot of the BlueJeans videoconference interface shows a visually refreshed interface\" width=\"665\" height=\"392\"><\/p>\n<p>There are multiple ways to join a meeting from the new App Dashboard (pictured above):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click to start your Personal meeting , or<\/li>\n<li>Click for two more join options: screen share only mode, or, using your phone for audio, or<\/li>\n<li>Hover over an upcoming meeting to view meeting details. Click the join button to enter, or<\/li>\n<li>Manually enter a Meeting ID and passcode (optional) and click Join to enter another meeting<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Before joining the meeting, you have the option to adjust your settings:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Mute your camera or mic before entering the meeting, if needed<\/li>\n<li>Click Settings to select your device (camera, mic or speaker), to make sure the right one is in use<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Read more about the updated app: <a href=\"https:\/\/support.bluejeans.com\/knowledge\/bluejeans-app-overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">support.bluejeans.com\/knowledge\/bluejeans-app-overview<\/a><\/p>\n<h1>How to get started<\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Register for an account at <a href=\"https:\/\/umich.bluejeans.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">umich.bluejeans.com<\/a> and click Login.<\/li>\n<li>Install the software\n<ul>\n<li>If you are using a&nbsp;<b>MiWorkspace-enabled machine<\/b>, visit the MWS Software Center to install BlueJeans. Instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.its.umich.edu\/miworkspace\/miworkspace-install-softwaremanage-updates-windows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows users<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.its.umich.edu\/miworkspace\/miworkspace-install-softwaremanage-updates-mac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mac users<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On your <b>personal device<\/b>, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluejeans.com\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bluejeans.com\/downloads<\/a>. Click download, open the installer, and follow the prompts.<\/li>\n<li><b>Michigan Medicine users<\/b> will have the updated software installed automatically on their managed devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Log in with the U-M BlueJeans account you created in step 1.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Note: BlueJeans requires special permissions with macOS Mojave. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/support.bluejeans.com\/knowledge\/mojave-permissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Learn more.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Looking for training or support?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For information about training resources, email <\/span><a href=\"mailto:HDVideoconferencing@umich.edu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HDVideoconferencing@umich.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Units that are outside of the scope of ITS, or that need classroom BlueJeans support, should contact their local units. Michigan Medicine users should contact <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/help.medicine.umich.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">help.medicine.umich.edu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Level 2 needed) or 6-8000.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>For large-scale events<\/h2>\n<p>A special type of meeting, called BlueJeans Events, are not yet integrated into BlueJeans version 2.8, but a separate app is available\u2014visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluejeans.com\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bluejeans.com\/downloads<\/a> and scroll down to <b>Tools<\/b>. Participants can also simply join BlueJeans Events from a web browser. BlueJeans Events provide a more controlled environment in which moderators can mute or promote presenters and stream to thousands of passive viewers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"omsc-box omsc-with-title omsc-with-bg-color omsc-with-icon omsc-icon-style-border omsc-icon-shape-circle\" style=\"border-color:#000000;background-color:#eff0f1;text-align:left\"><div class=\"omsc-box-icon-wrapper\"><div class=\"omsc-box-icon\" style=\"border-color:#eff0f1;color:#eff0f1;border-color:#000000;color:#000000;\"><i class=\"fa fa-university\"><\/i><\/div><\/div><div class=\"omsc-box-inner\"><div class=\"omsc-box-title\">Why use BlueJeans at U-M?<\/div><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Units cover the cost<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Most likely, your unit already pays for it. The cost to cover BlueJeans is billed to<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.its.umich.edu\/communication\/videoconferencing\/blue-jeans\/bluejeans-participating-units\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">participating units<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>HIPAA compliance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 BlueJeans can be used to discuss Protected Health Information, like patient names, thanks to an agreement between U-M and BlueJeans Network.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Works with Weblogin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 No need to create a separate account: log in with your U-M uniqname and Level-1 password at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/umich.bluejeans.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">umich.bluejeans.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Trusted relationship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 ITS has negotiated a data protection agreement with BlueJeans Network, and also ensured the service works across the U-M community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Recorded meetings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Capture and share audio and video from any BlueJeans meeting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=0B1UL_r1fjE0zWURFRVNxeWpzUVk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">See a comparison of videoconferencing tools to learn more.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BlueJeans&#8217; updated desktop app is designed for speed and simplicity.
